Philosophical Epiphanies That Don't Really Change Much... But Do Make Me Think...
Just a couple thoughts I keep having:The measure of a friend is not how much (s)he agrees with you... Or even how much (s)he knows about you...
Unfortunately, I don't know precisely what the measure of a friend is.
Maybe a person is a friend if (s)he is willing to sit in the rain without an umbrella to talk to you... Or maybe if (s)he is willing to discreetly and respectfully give space when you need it... Or maybe if making cookies becomes an excuse to call... Or maybe if (s)he sings with you over and over and over again... Or maybe if (s)he is willing to let you say nothing and be lost in your own thoughts and then laugh with you over eccentricities of church and religion... Or maybe if (s)he calls and leaves a fun message on your answering machine or sends e-mails about elks bulging (did you mean bugling?) out the window... Or maybe if (s)he accepts you when others wouldn't... Or maybe if (s)he finds a way to be honest without its feeling like a punishment... Or maybe... Purple cow, anyone, or is this sweet-sappiness enough?
Thanks, Topside, for your friendship.
