Eke is a funny word
Agreed. The "here" in Roma's question could mean the table, so your answer was true. Although imagine the implications if you expanded what "here" meant - Did you come to Main House to play pick? Did you come to Gould Farm to play pick? Did you come into existence on this earth to play pick? Roma's question is pretty existential, if you think about it.You got me for just a second with the Red Barn, TSO. What is the Big E? All I can guess is New Orleans.
I discovered a program near me that provides a clubhouse for adults with mental illnesses to come together and get support, vocational assistance, etc, so I started e-mailing the director to find out more. She had never heard of the "farm" model (as she called it), but suggested that a facility nearby might share some Gould Farm aspects. That facility turned out to be a minimum security correctional institution! Apparently my initial description of the farm made it sound like we were running prison work teams. Whoops.
In other news, my county's hospital had to cut their entire mental health program. They tried to eke it along for a while, but the money just wasn't there. Why is it that mental health doesn't get glamour funding like cancer and AIDS? Why do people put pink breast cancer ribbons on their cars but schizophrenia jokes on their bumper stickers? Is the stigma still too strong to treat it like a proper illness?
